    Description

    Offered here is a collection of thimbles obtained at a recent estate sale.  The owner was a quilter and her collection included thimbles of deceased relatives as well as more contemporary and collectible thimbles given to her by children and grandchildren.  We have porcelain/china, brass, steel, plastic, glass and wood.  Some are entirely decorative, but others have years of use and they come in a variety of sizes.There are 50 thimbles in all, including a floral ceramic marked Avon, the one with crab on top is marked Pewter/Canada although it represents Maryland.  Several are tarnished and may be silver/silver plate, but I have not tried to clean any of them.  One is cloisonné, the plastics are old advertising, one of the woods is hand turned, several are marked Germany and there is a little thimble holder with cat that is marked METZKE 1979.  Very nice instant collection.
