    Description

These are epaulets presumably from the Pre-1872 Period and earlier from the Civil War.
They are likely for a Major due to the width of the drop fringes (1/2") and absence of Colonel's oak leafs or General's Stars.
They are also presumably from this earlier period due to the cloth bottom construction.
The later period General's style usually had leather bottoms.
The epaulets as used in the Civil War were as I understand it discontinued in 1872.
Apparently epaulets were only used by Generals thereafter.
If anyone knows the facts and would not mind telling me, I would appreciate it.
Note that the uniform shown in some photos is not for sale in this listing but in its own separate listing.
The photos are used only to show the epaulets in position of use.
